Looking for a "Free" and "Good" DVD player? Stop looking, because none exists. If you want a good DVD player (great quality playback + excellent user interface), you'll have to pay for it, since the licensing fees that software companies have to pay for CSS/Dolby/DTS will mean that there is no way they can offer it for free.
You can however used a DirectShow filter based software DVD player, which is basically an player interface to any DirectShow DVD/MPEG-2 video/audio decoder files on your computer. You'll need to obtain your own DirectShow DVD/MPEG-2 filters though - commercial DVD players come with these kinds of filters, but there are also free ones.
Want to find out how to enable Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.xx's DVD playback facilities? Then please follow this link to find out how. You'll need to have a working set of Directshow MPEG-2 video/AC3 audio filters, and there are some here (eg. Free DVD Filters).
