Pour l'instant je telecharge une version de 2 cd

non-US = possibilités de cryptage complètes (aux USA, le cryptage "évolué" est considéré comme arme stratégiques ). Donc prends le non-US.
 
Si tu as une cnx ADSL, le mieux est que tu installes le minimum (je me souviens avec trouvé une image de 180Mo qui comprenais une simili interface graphique), et que tu fasses des install par apt-get ensuite.

bah tu télécharge que le CD1. Tu prends la version non-us parceque la version US a certaines limitations (cryptage je crois) du àla législation des US.

pour ma part, j'utilise plutôt des sarge, sauf si je devais monter un serveur où je mettrais une woody.

ensuite tu as bien installé kde?

si la configuration de X n'a pas été faite, il faut taper "xf86config" en ligne de commande.
 
suivent une serie de question qui permettent de configurer /etc/X11/XF86Config.
 
ce fichier, une fois le boulot terminé, contiendra a peu pres tout ce dont tu as besoin pour lancer un X. plus d'infos, plus en détails sur www.lea-linux.org section xfree, version 4.
 
voir en particulier la section sur les modelines.
 
Donc une fois que tu as l'interface graphique, tu seras en train d'utilser les pilotes nvidia de chez Xfree ; pour avoir le support 3d et la 2d plus rapide, faut installer ceux de chez nvidia : les télécharger, les installer.
 
ouvrir ton /etc/X11/XF86Config, et modifier la ligne correspondant au driver de la carte, de "nv" vers "nvidia" et trouver et mettre la ligne "load   "glx" "
 
ensuite, faut charger le module nvidia
 
"modprobe nvidia"
 
normalement il est chargé, et on refait "startx".

Comment je restaure mon Master boot record pour virer lilo de mon disque pricipal(celui où il y a windows) je me rappelle plus de la commande sous windows

si t'es newbie commence pas par une Debian! J'ai jamais vu quelqu'un débuter le ski par une piste rouge  

 
prendre une disquette de boot et taper A:>fdisk /mbr
 
Mais pkoi ne commencerais tu pas par une Mandrake ? tu n'as rien à faire, l'installation fait tout ! C'est vrai que par contre, elle installe bcp plus de conneries, mais au moins, cela permet de débuter sans se prendre la tête d'entrée avec des configurations que l'on ne maîtrisent pas encore...

La mandrake me prend la tete on sait meme pas comment installer un logiciel alors que le systeme de la debian est pas mal.
Mais bon apres reflexon linux ne m'est d'aucune utilité .

J'ai eu le message sous debian... c'était le framebuffer qui était activé, et il a suffit de le désactiver pour que ce soit ok...

 
Si je voulais rentrer dans ton jeux, je pourrais dire que commencer l'informatique sous Windows c'est pas une bonne chôse non plus  
 
Et je pense au contraire que s'il est un poil passionné, et bien commencer par la Debian est une excellente chôse.

Par contre Knoppix et mandrake fonctionnent parfaitement mais j'ai jamais besoin de faire startx avec eux

sinon   pas d'incompatibilité, t'as une carte graphique tout ce qu'il y a de plus basique (j'ai la meme d'ailleurs, a peu de chose pres), et le pc, c'est no pb.

2) essayer xf86config ou le "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" mais ca j'y connais rien moi ; je suis sous gentoo

pendant que t'y es, t'as pas le /etc/XF86Config ?

D'apres ce que j'ai retiendu, faut activer diverses options dans le kernel, et dans lilo, faut choisir un mode autre que le vga.
 
avec ca dans /etc/lilo.conf :

normalement, y a pas le framebuffer. A moins que le support dans le noyau suffise a foutre la merde ?

Question con : la version de Xfree du stanley est la 4.1, et le driver fourni, d'apres le log, gere tout jusqu'a la geforce 3 ... pas la 4 !
 
C'est peut etre ca le probleme alors !
 
y en a un qui peut confirmer / infirmer ?
 
sinon deux solutions :
 
- mettre une version plus a jour de Xfree (la 4.3 marche bien chez moi, je sais pas pour la 4.2 vis a vis de la gf4)
 
- installer direct les drivers nvidia : aller sur nvidia.com, DL, et installer.

Dites, pendant qu'on est dans les pbs de screen, perso j'ai une Radeon 7500 qui dispose d'une sortie DVI et d'une sortie analogique. Mais lorsque je configure XFree, il me dit qu'il ne trouve pas l'écran, je le soupçonne de ne chercher l'écran que sur la sortie DVI (j'ai branché en analogique) :
Comment peut-on configurer XFree pour qu'il sorte sur la sortie analogique ?

Dans ta section device "prolink geforce4" le driver est toujours vga dc....
De plus la configuration du clavier en "us" ne s'avera pas très pratique....
