"Windows 2000 installation includes (in most cases, I think) the Microsoft's SMTP server service. This SMTP mail server is started by default and due to another mail server (Proxy mail server for example) can't be started because the TCP/IP port 25 (default for SMTP protocol) is already used by MS SMTP service. It means your mail client isn't using Proxy+'s mail server when it sends messages but the Microsoft's SMTP server service. Because the service isn't configured to allow relaying of messages (antispam settings) you see the message "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for .....".
To solve the problem you have to disable Microsoft's SMTP server service and restart Proxy. Then check Proxy's logfiles whether the mail server properly started"
