With the release of Halo PC, I will now say that there is a problem with Halo PC if you attempt to use manually created refresh rates. you will get an error that your 3D Device could not be initialized.
Please do the following:
Right click your Halo icon, click properties. For the Target, it should look something like the following:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe"
after that, you want to add your video mode and refresh rate, in the format -vidmode horizontal, vertical, refresh rate.
For my setting, I use 1024x768@102Hz. Mine looks like the following
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -vidmode 1024,768,102
Once you do this, Halo will work properly. You will not be able to manually change the resolution through the menus with this set. If you want to run at a higher res, set it on the command line. You will be able to adjust the game's FPS mechanism. For best gameplay, I recommend using the 30 FPS setting. For best display on CRTs, use the VSYNC setting, and for all out frame rate freaks or LCD users, use the NO-VSYNC setting.
Tips for users:
If you are a user of a Geforce video card, use the 45.23 WHQL drivers available on http://www.nvidia.com. I had issues with 45.24 related to zooming that were solved with these drivers. I have not played with 45.32 nor 45.33 at this time. If you are using a Geforce FX, and experience lower than expected performance, also add the command line option -use11. You are not missing much with the PS2.0 usage in the game, and the GF-FX will perform significantly better with this (Hopefully will be fixed in the 50.xx series of drivers).
This thread will be a sticky in the Techical Support section until an updated version of NVRefreshTool is created that includes this in the help file.
