J'ai un soucis et je viens cherchez de l'aide ici avant d'avoir plus de cheveux   :'(  
j'ai une X800GT PowerColor 256mo pci-e
et j'arrive pas a avoir Mandriva 2007 les pilotes ati fonctionelle (et avec l'accel 3D) le but final étant d'avoir XGL   :)

Je vais pas rentrer dans le côté technique de la chose, mais tu fais parti des gens deçus par les pilotes ATI sous linux...
 
Moi même je possède une x800 GTO PCIE 256 Mo, et bien les pilotes ATI sont une galère à mettre en place, c'est lamentable...
Pour avoir déjà installé plusieurs fois Mandriva (linux en général) sur des machines nvidia c'est tout de même bcp plus simple (même si ce n'est pas la panade non plus).
 
Les pilotes ATI ne parviennent pas à fournir une accélération 3D correcte sous linux, même si celle-ci est activée: ça rame énormément...
 
Alors certaines personnes arrivent à avoir une accélération correcte, mais il semblerai que ces gens tournent sous des radéon x1300, x1600, x1...
Nous les pauvres pocésseurs de x800 sommes des oubliés d'ATI.
 
Quant au bureau 3D, chez moi c'est pareil, pas possible de l'utiliser. Pourtant tout y est: pilotes ATI, accélération activée, compiz, xgl et la smala...
Espérons que sous l'élant d'AMD, ATI va se bouger le tronchon...

merci pour ton témoignages :) j'ai abandonné et j'ai fait une install sur une Mandriva sur un laptop hp avec une nvidia... plus facile :)
espérons que les news pilote ATI règleront le problème.

1. pour XGL il ne faut pas de compiz
 
2. je ne suis pas sûr qu'il était normal que tu charges la libraire glx de xorg et non celle du pilote ATI ...
Réinstalles les packages dkms-ati et ati disponibles dans les média plf ( plf-free et plf-nonfree ) et reconfigure la carte avec drakx11.

Perso j'ai une Mobility Radeon X600 SE en PCIE 64+64 Mo, après installation du driver fglrx et configuration correcte du fichier xorg.conf, j'obtiens des performances plus que correctes pour l'affichage 3D ...
 
Alors oui, forcément, j'ai xorg 6.9, je n'utilise pas xgl et tous les bidules du bureau 3D et je tourne sous Slackware :D

Perso j'ai une ATI 9600 pro et j'ai installé le pilote donné sur le site officiel
J'ai une debian mais je crois que le pilote ne différencie pas les distrib.
après quelques galères au niveau du module (google!!!) ca marche parfaitement.
Mes appli openGL tournent plus vite sous linux que windows!!!!! tant mieux!
