What is PFC?
PFC stands for Power Factor Correction. It is an electric mechanism to
improve Power Utilization Efficiency
What is Power Factor?
Power Factor is a measurement of how efficiently electrical power is being used. It is the ratio of Active Power to the Apparent Power, and has a value between 0 and 1, where the higher the power factor, the more efficiently electrical power is being used.
Is PFC a mandatory power supply requirement?
PFC is only mandatory in Europe, effective on 1/1/2001. It regulates all
products which require an apparent power of between 75 watts and 600 watts
to have a input current wave shape that matches the standard's definition. Because of this our PFC power supplies do not have a voltage switch.
What is the benefit of PFC?
1. Environmental. Increased energy efficiency.
2. Improved power factor, and reduced electric utility bill
3. Prolongs life of power distribution equipment and power consuming
system
devices.
4. Improved voltage stability
5. Reduced heat losses
