Why do you think serious newspapers-online like the NewYork Times have such programs on their website from an economic point of view ?
Since the advent of Internet, newspapers with national influence perceive the need to explore new ways in their business model. Thus, in 1996, the New York Times thought to be its self-service items. Indeed, some newspapers have quickly realized that the press should have in the future new sources of income.
In the early days of Internet, only the major newspapers fit into this virtual world. Very quickly, the newspapers have realized that it had remained competitive in a new world that they have not control. However, this new universe was already taking by other people, such as blogs that anyone can invent and create. Thus, revenues from advertising on the sites of major newspapers are directly related to frequenting at their websites, these newspapers had to find ways to attract people. In this objective, some have thought to create interactivity through links between their sites and pages containing such videos for example.
Newspapers have at their disposal the material and men to contribute original sites different from those that can be crossed on the canvas, which often simply repeat the contents of the paper, adding some links to "make Internet ". While many news sites are distinguished by their lack of originality, they have a lack ofmaterial and human resources at the service of development by companies that have not always understood the importance of the challenge or who believe that online publishing should be an electronic copy of content already published.
Only reputable publications or professional can afford such an approach since they have acquired the aura in the real world to attract users. The New York Times, Les Echos and the Wall Street Journal's illustration. But other less prestigious titles must adopt a more "offensive" and original if they do not want the Internet experience from turning into a fiasco.
The combination of the quality of the information contained in the paper with the design of the site will give newspapers an advantage over those who are now attempting to establish itself as the leading provider of information on the Net. The stakes are high since the search for information online is the second concern of French Internet after email or nearly 20% of U.S. users of Internet their primary source of information.
Most sites of international newspapers were forced to interact with the public through interactive websites such as Youtube, Dailymotion or other blogs ; otherwise, they could easily lose their fight against Internet.
