Blizzard trailers coming in DivX
The game company licenses the video compression technology for use in distributing its cinematic game trailers.
DivXNetworks has announced that Blizzard Entertainment has licensed its DivX video compression technology to encode and distribute its cinematic game trailers. Blizzard will post DivX-encoded trailers on its official Web site for its upcoming real-time strategy game, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos; its upcoming online role-playing game, World of Warcraft; and its popular role-playing game expansion, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. DivX is a video compression and decompression technology based on the MPEG-4 standard. It provides DVD-quality video at a smaller file size, making it faster to download high-quality movies over the Internet.
