-Ok Ok I am writing this because there has been a huge influx of new players and they keep wanting (or needing) to know a lot of specifics. I will refer players to read this, as Voxx or Ihgyoorai. (1)First of all you can move around by right clicking somewhere, either right around you or on the minimap. You can move in continuous, smooth curves by holding down right click or turning on num lock. You can also signal on the map by holding alt and left clicking on it where you would like to flare. Your ship fires automatically at the closest hostiles, RTS style, but you can give a target priority by left clicking it. You can follow friend or foe by righting clicking them.
(2) Now, move to the building you spawned next to, the starbase. Left click it. There are items here for sale. For now, just buy navigator and prototype weapon.(If you happen to buy powers that you no longer need, you can relinquish them by hold shift and right clicking them).
(3)Now go out to either of the 2 large empty areas on the left or right of the middle of the map. There will be big bugs here, the armada. The best way to kill them is to keep moving around them in circles, as far out as you can get while still hitting them. This way you can dodge shots, keep your health, and fight longer. (4)Now beside your name in the upper left hand corner are 3 bars. The top is shields, the first order of defense. The middle is hull... when it goes to nothing you die. There are many ways to heal both shields and hull. Both United Systems and Imperial playes can heal at their starbase. If your hull meter turns yellow, go back there and sit beside it to heal. (5)Ok... you can chat by pressing enter. Under the middle of the chat field on the "tool bar" is a blue diamond with a number by it. This is called influence (influ or inf for short)... it goes for cash in the Neutral Zone. Check and see if you have 950. If you do, go down to the Observer in the Southwest (lower left) corner of the map. Once you are there, buy Trapper (if you can't find the observer, just mouse over little arrows on the minimap... it will say the name of the shop... then right click there to autopilot there... watchout for enemies though!). Getting trapper at the start will help you to kill bugs and get cash. Once you go and kill some more and get another 950, go to warlord (in the northeast or rupper right corner) and buy frontier pilot. Then buy nomad guides, which condenses frontier pilot and navigator into one better power. (6)Now go and kill until you get 3k, then go to outlaw, which is to the right of warlord, and buy alien hunter. This is an essential early game power to kill lots of armada and get cash to buy items for pvp later on. (7)Now check out the bar on the bottom of the screen again, you have 1, 2 ,3, 4 buttons with various ship systems in them, depending on your race. Mouse over these to see what they do. Everyone's main gun and some other systems are easy to use in that you can just put them on auto by right clicking them( note:the main gun is already on... unless you want to cloak don't turn it off). Others are more active and require that you choose the time and place to use them carefully. Regardless, these special abilities are very potent and should be used all the time... they are the different races' abilities. The systems which are not the main gun are called "effects". (8)You may be asking yourself, "If this is a MMORPG, then are there levels?... How do I level?" The first answer is yes, and the second can be answered by pressing m and looking at the bottom 2 entries. Bounty is earned by killing stuff. Champion is earned by killing enemy players. The cap on bounty is 1k, and champ is 10 kills. If you win by your team destroying the enemy starbase, then you get double your bounty. YOU MUST STAY TO THE END OF A MATCH TO RECIEVE ANY XP REWARD FROM THE NZ...This is to keep individuals from getting their xp and ditching their teammates. Also, you cannot get your xp and go afk... in full instances you will be kicked after a certain period of time. (9)How do you win the match?... Destroy the enemy starbase. The easiest way to do this is to build buildings along three seperate paths from the shipyards around your starbase alll the way to their starbase. In order to do this you will have to clear out any enemies around a crystal and defend the builder that comes out from your starbase to the empty crystal. To speed things up you can mine a crystal by right or left clicking it, releasing minerals that the builder can use when he arrives there to build. The side paths extends from the shipyards that are up against the boundaries of the NZ along the wall to the enemiy's shipyards, and the mid path extends pretty much from one starbase to the other (from upper left corner to lower right[or vice versa if you are a nomad]). (10)The building sequence along each path after your shipyards is outpost, sci lab, outpost, and shipyard outpost. The outposts' function is purely defensive. The scilabs are built where the brains are located... All I can say about the brains is that they are the toughest armada on the map, and they drop permanent upgrades when they are killed (but don't let an npc get the last hit or they drop NOTHING). The scilabs cause large capitol ships to be built at your shipyards, which then come down the paths, giving your team a huge advantage in pushing to the enemy starbase. On the flipside, they also give the enemy a ton of influ when they die. After you destroy the enemies' shipyards, you can build a shipyard outpost. This disgorges a huge stream of all kinds of ships directly from that outpost on the enemy battlestations. This gives a huge advantage to the team that builds it. Now you just have to take out the 2 battlestations so that the starbase is defenseless, and kill it with the help of npcs. (11)The paths are called top, mid, and low. The use of a top name and a building refers to the building on that path... for example "mid shipyard" refers to your shipyard where the mid path begins. (12)There are 2 more powers that are good for new people to buy... Steel messiah and sabotage. Steel messiah's main benefit is that it regens your shield, hull , and energy while you fly around. It also gives your nearby allies buffs, too. Sabotage is mainly used to attack enemy buildings. It lets you hit for much greater dmg vs buildings 60% of the time, and has a 30% chance of disabling their attack. (13)To get steel messiah, first buy field research from the starbase. Then go around and scrounge up about 1.5k. Go to scientist and buy energy relay, then with that and field research buy energizer. Then go and get 2k, and go to observer and buy artificial intelligence and cyborg engineers, then scarab emissary. Finally go around and get 3k and come back to observer to buy steel messsiah. (14) For sabo you need navigator and covert ops from the starbase. Go to the trader and buy trade network for 250. Then get around 4k. Go to the spy and buy spy network, and pick up military secrets. Go to warlord and get demolisher. Then come back to spy and pick up sabotage. (15)The three powers I have mentioned are staples of most matches. There are MANY more but try to practice getting these first before asking around what to get next. (16)A note on buying powers with prereqs: While you are shopping, you can mouse over an item... if it has prereqs then the shops where they are sold have small arrows bouncing above them on the minimap... very useful! (17)You will encounter the concept of a build. This refers to a group of powers that is purchased to have some desired effect. There are damage builds, defense builds, siege(basekiller) builds, even vampire builds(that rely on hull steal). The three items above are the solid beginnings of an experience/ cash build for new players. Some build are just transitional... for example later in the game, after the brains have been killed, alien hunter is less useful and can be sold to make room for a more appropriate power. (18)After the game is over and you leave the NZ for your home space, you may notice that you leveled. By pressing s or clicking on your ship, you can add ship level points to your ship systems. However, it should be noted that while you were in the NZ your ship systems were all buffed to lvl 9 through local support. You get this for free each game for just playing, basically. If you want to take advantage of your points, you have got to go higher than 9, ultimately to 20. You want to add all points for the life of your character to your main gun AND ONE OTHER SYSTEM OF YOUR CHOICE-- from then on only add to those 2 systems. At lvl 40, the cap for the alpha, you will then have two 20's and two 9's every game you play, and two 20's and two 15 's if you get a power called singularity. (19)If you need to read any of this while playing, hold shift and press enter to window AO. - Next section will have more fine tuning type stuff... stay tuned.
