January 18, 2002 (SEOUL) -- DRAM makers may hike prices for fixed customers again, says Meritz Securities.
During their upcoming price negotiations with fixed customers in mid-January, local DRAM manufacturers will likely push for another price hike on DRAM products, according to analysts at Meritz Securities Co., Ltd. on Jan. 16.
In a report released by the firm, it states that local DRAM makers are expected propose prices of US$3.5 and US$8 on their 128Mb SDRAM and 256Mb SDRAM products, respectively, which is 47 percent higher than prices seen in early January.
Given the improved conditions regarding demand for DRAMs, PC makers will likely have no choice but to accept the price hikes, Meritz said, adding that prices of the 128Mb SDRAMs and 256Mb SDRAMs in the world chip market will likely swing up to the US$4 and US$8 level, respectively.
