Si, c'est hélas un problème connu d'ATI (cfr voir la FAQ), il y a si je ne me trompe pas un patch disponible sur le site

Slow 3D performance in Windows XP with 512MB or greater installed
This issue affects products based on the following chipsets when used under Windows XP:
RADEON
RADEON VE
RADEON 7000
RADEON 7200
RADEON 7500
RADEON 8500
On a system using 512MB or greater of memory, 3D performance may be noticeably slower than a comparable system using less than 512MB.
This symptom does not appear to occur if the system's CMOS is configured for an AGP Aperture size of 128MB.
To correct this issue, obtain and install Windows XP display driver version 6.13.10.6025 or higher.
Alternately, to work around this issue when using an older driver, ensure that the AGP Aperture size configured in the system's CMOS is set to 128MB. Please check the manual/documentation for your motherboard for details on changing CMOS settings.
